STEM Research Headlines

  • Integrated skills and relevant approaches are the direction most research is pushing as effective ways of teaching STEM
  • Focus needs to be preK -20 to really establish change.  This is a major undertaking.
  • STEM needs to become more appealing to minority populations: not the suburban student if can be used as an economic stimulus and driver.
  • There is not a singular formula that will work for everyone – think globally, act locally is a good idea to remember when it comes to system change.
  • There are resources and information available for districts/states/classrooms – but overhauling the system is costly and requires a commitment beyond what we have had in the past. Without assurances that any major overhaul will increase student achievement – this is almost impossible to sell.

Children should be led to make their own investigations, and to draw upon their own inferences. They should be told as little as possible.
